Intervju: Paleowolf (Srbija)

Paleowolf

[Scroll down for English]
One man band u Srbiji predstavlja pravi izazov, to je sigurno.

2. Koji su tvoji muzički uticaji?

3. Ima li one man projekat/bend budućnosti na našoj sceni?

5. Live nastupi? Kada ih možemo očekivati?

7. Planovi za budućnost?

A.W. : Nadam se da će prvo ići fizičko izdanje „Primordial“ EP-a, onda i LP izdanje. Sve posle toga je i dalje u procesu planiranja.

Paleowolf

1. Hi, thank you took the time for our Webzine. Tell the very beginning about your project Paleowolf?

A.W. : Thank you for your interest. Paleowolf, if it should be classified in a genre, primarily is an ambient musical project inspired by the prehistoric life of our ancestors. I can say that the project started somehow accidentally, as a product of meditation over the distant human past and an attempt to imagine how the lives of our ancestors were like. I'm sure I'm not the first whos fascinated with prehistory, but what makes me different in that respect is that I always have a great need to express my emotional and spiritual condition through music and that’s what happened in this case too.

2. What are your musical influences?

A.W. : They are really too much, I no longer know myself. In my music collection you can find some completely mutually different things and all I listen to and to what I've listened, has some influence on my creativity. Therefore I could not single out any specific names. The only thing I could say I'm the most inspired by is ritual ambient music, shamanic music of certain ancient people (eg. Northern and Eastern shamanic tradition), tribal music, but also classical music and industrial. There are all kinds of things here.

3. Does a one mand project / band has the future on our scene?

A.W. : Frankly, I do not follow much the happenings on our scene, nor does my creation measure up to some reference point that people call "a scene". As long as this country is concerned, our scene is not something especially strong and coherent in any genre, so even a "full member" bands do not have a bright future here. So I think that no matter how many people are working on some things, the importance is the quality of the work, that the people are interested to hear it and, above all, support. Here is difficult for artists because there is no strong group of people (there also almost no labels) that are mutually supportive, who will be there for just-starting artist and who’ll promote new and young projects.
4. How are you satisfied with the recent Paleowolf EP release? The search for a music publisher is still continuing or there are some news about it?

A.W. : I am very pleased with the reception of the EP. I had no idea that this, in a modern and commercial sense, "weird" music will be met with such enthusiasm in people. Especially when you consider the entire theme - long and dark history of man, is obscure and not so popular. As far as the question about the publisher is concerned, that’s much more difficult situation. Somehow there’s no agreement between the audience response and the response of the publisher. Lately I'm in talks with some people who could release the physical edition, we'll see how all that will go.
5. Live performances? When can we expect them?

A.W. : For now, my goal is to release the album in physical work and somehow give shape to my work, so I will think about everything else after that. I'm open for live shows, I think it would be a very interesting and powerful experience for both me and the audience, and it certainly would be an unusual one in these areas.

6. Do you share the opinion that, if one wants to experience the music in the best way, one must go back to nature, to our ancestors?

A.W. : That’s certainly true as far as some musical styles are concerned, especially when it comes to music I create through Paleowolf. The truth is that man is separated from nature to a great extent, and this situation has led to a change in his overall condition. If man gets back to nature it will have a huge positive impact on him, thus the experience of listening to the music he loves will have a different and greater influence on him.

7. Plans for the future?

A.W. : I hope I will first put out physical release of "Primordial" EP, and then LP release. Everything after that is still in the planning process.

8. And finally, what would be your message to Celtic - Slavic Webzine Serbia readers?

A.W. : Let them be grateful to Nature, to the tree, grass, birds, the sun ... because Nature is the reason we’re all here. Appreciate the beauty found in Nature because there’s no greater art than that. Let them remind themselves every day who you are and where do you come from, what is your mission here – it will give them strength to move on.
